The contestants appear in order of numbers assigned (Contestant No.), drawn randomly by members of the jury, which will determine the order by which they will play in front of the jury. The letter "W" after the Contestant No. signifies a first prize-winner of a major international piano competition entitled to enter directly to Round II of this competition. The nationality of the candidates, appearing in brackets after their name, is determined by their passports.

Please note that in Round II all candidates will have to play their selections from the Shostakovitch preludes and fugues, from the Takemitsu pieces and the obligatory Tchaikovsky, while the jury will decide which one or two pieces they may play from the rest of their own selections.

He has won several  prizes in international piano competitions including the first prize at the 1998 William Kapell International Piano Competition He has performed widely both as a soloist and in concerts.
