MASTER CLASSES, A SYMPOSIUM ON GUITAR, WORKSHOPS, LECTURE/ DEMONSTRATIONS by Alvaro Pierri and invited guitar masters on Tuesday 27th, Wednesday 28th, Thursday 29th and Friday 30th September 2016 will take place as follows:

ONLY the 10:00 to 12:00 session (CODE A1) on Tue. 27th September: Lecture/Demonstration by guest Prof. Danny Yeh, will take place at the City Hall Recital Hall, High Block.

Starting with the afternoon session on Tue. 27th September (A Symposium on Guitar) (CODE A2) and on Wed.28th, Thu.29th and Fri.30th September, both morning and afternoon sessions (CODES B1, B2, C1, C2, D1 and D2) will take place at:

Guitar and music lovers will be, once again, offered the opportunity to attend Prof. Pierri’s master classes and workshops which have become a highlight of his visits to Hong Kong.
This year, Prof. Pierri will play host to three distinguished master guitarists who will be delivering a two hours workshop each, in the mornings of Tuesday 27th, Wednesday 28th and Thursday 29th September, from 10:00 am to 12:00 noon, as follows:

Tuesday 27th September - Prof. Danny Yeh, (Shanghai)
-A lecture /demonstration on: 5 preludes by H. Villa-Lobos

Wednesday 28th September – Prof. Chen Zhi, (Beijing)
- A lecture/demonstration on his methodology for teaching guitar

Thursday 29th September – Prof. Adrian Walter, (Hong Kong)
- A lecture /demonstration on the early nineteenth century guitar

Friday 30th September, from 10:00 to 13:00 Alvaro Pierri (Vienna)
- A lecture/demonstration on the music of the two composers he will have featured in his recital on the 26th September at the City Hall Concert Hall:

1st Part – Isaac Albeniz: his music and its importance in the development of the
music for piano and guitar.
2nd Part ‐ Agustin Barrios: his music and its importance in the development of the music for guitar.

In the afternoon of Tue. 27th Sept., from 15:00 to 19:00) there will be a Symposium on Guitar. Recitals by master teachers/guitarists from the attending conservatories/music institutions from Hong Kong and abroad, followed by a discussion/comments/interaction with Alvaro Pierri with the performing guitarists being the teachers themselves!

For the first time since Alvaro has been coming to Hong Kong, and at the request of several of the participating teachers, the usual pattern of activities for the master classes will be followed, except that the participating guitarists will be the teachers themselves, taking this Festival of Guitar to an international level where there will be an exchange of knowledge and expertise among the masters with the benefit of everybody participating: performers and audience alike.

In the afternoons of Wed. 28th, from 15:00 to 19:00, Thu. 29th , from 14:00 to 19:00 and Fri. 30th Sept. from 14:00 to 19:00, there will be a recital of an hour duration by some of the most advanced students of the attending conservatories/music institutions from Hong Kong and abroad, followed by master classes delivered by Alvaro Pierri with the performing guitarists participating and attending coming from major conservatories/music institutions (Hong Kong, Taiwan, Macau, China and Korea), with the attendance, whenever possible, of their distinguished professors.

For those who might have problems following the presentations in English, Kenneth Kwan, as usual, will be providing a simultaneous translation into Chinese.
