Postponement of Deadline for submission of applications to participate in the 5th Hong Kong International Piano Competition. New date: 31st March 2019

You might be pleased to know that the deadline for submission of applications to participate in the Hong Kong International Piano Competition has been postponed until the 31st March 2019.
Having reached the initial date fixed as deadline to receive applications, we had more than 65!!! requests from potential applicants asking to be able to submit their applications past the initially given deadline.
We thought that, if we were going to be flexible with 65 potential applicants, to be perfectly fair to all interested parties, we needed to postpone the deadline which, as mentioned above, we did, and the deadline is now the 31st March 2019.

May we remind all interested parties that the submission of applications with all related documentation, including sending the video recordings, can be done online. Please, use the following e-mail address: afreris@netvigator.com

We have just received the following enquiry from several potential applicants:
Q: I have an enquiry concerning the repertoire I will be proposing to play
if I manage to pass the previous stages of the competition and I reach the semi finals level.
I would like to know whether I could include some of the pieces I suggest to play in the quarter finals, as part of my repertoire for my semi finals.
A: As you know the semi finalists will each be giving a recital of a completely free repertoire, chosen from published, commercially available scores. The recital will be up to 105 minutes long to include an intermission of 15 minutes and the performance of two (up to 5 to 6 minutes long) compulsory pieces which have been commissioned from composers Chen Yi and Nimrod Borenstein.
We want the semifinalists to feel that they will be coming to Hong Kong to give a proper recital. The only difference is that, among the members of the audience, there is going to be the Panel of the Jury.
In principle, we do not have any objection if some of the pieces selected to be played by a semi finalist were already included in his/her programme for the quarter finals.
But, I would like you to just reflect on the following: we are going to encourage the members of the Jury to view the quarter finals video recording of each of the semi finalists, just before attending their semi finals performance, given that the members of the Jury will be asked to consider the overall performance of each one of the contestants whenever it comes to voting (giving a score).
Performing the same repertoire in both rounds will amount, in fact, to the contestant being competing with him/her self.
I hope my remarks will help you solve this issue.
I suggest that you think about it ... You do not need to send us the programme for the semi finals for quite a while yet, and, in any case, once the quarter finalists are announced, the contestants will be given time to introduce changes to the programme they will have sent along with their application.
